Well, this was a mistake. An unmitigated, full-blown disaster of a mistake. Izzy stepped into the hotel room behind Zayn and took in the luxurious surroundings as she stood in the doorway.

The place looked like something right out of a romantic movie, exactly what a honeymoon suite would look like. They did say Paris was the city for lovers. Obviously, the hotel industry took that reputation to heart when choosing their décor.

Plush, thick carpeting the color of desert sand, with gold-tone paint on the walls. Subtle hues of deep burgundy and rose-pink adorned the bed and furniture. A huge painting of a cherub hung on the wall above the wide-screen television.

Honestly, it all bordered on cliché, complete with the Eiffel Tower in view outside a glass door that led to a charming balcony.

This is what she got for ignoring her instincts and blindly following her impulsive heart. How in the world was she going to spend the next few days sharing this space with Zayn, her ex-lover?

“It won’t be so bad,” he said from across the room, as if reading her thoughts. “There’s plenty of space. I promise I’ll be a perfect gentleman.”

Ha! As if she’d believe that. “Unless I happen to come to stand under some mistletoe?”

The smile he gave her was downright wolfish. “Well, I’m not made of stone.”

She chose to ignore that. His eyes fell to the sofa in the center of the room just as hers did. The problem was immediately obvious. Far from any kind of comfortable place to sleep, the piece looked like it would barely fit a man of Zayn’s stature. Given its size, the ornate armrests and a curved cushioned back would no doubt have him rolling off onto the floor in the middle of the night.

“I’ll sleep on the sofa,” she declared, stating what was clearly the only option.

Zayn grabbed his luggage and began unpacking. “You can’t seriously think I’ll allow that.”

Why had she hoped he would just accept her wishes? Honestly, it was as if she didn’t know him at all. “And I can’t allow you to try to contort yourself into a pretzel shape in the very hotel room you booked and are paying for.”

“You’ll have to. Like I said, I am a true gentleman. One who would never let a lady spend a night on—” he pointed to the sofa in question “—that thing.”

“Then we are clearly at an impasse.”

He shrugged. “Let’s discuss it over dinner. I’m famished.”

Another thing they were going to put off addressing until later. But her stomach grumbled in response to the mention of food, so she decided not to push it. “I insist that it be my treat. You’re paying for the hotel room. I’ll pay for the meals.” Only as the words left her mouth did she begin to question them. Knowing Zayn, he was probably used to eating in the finest, top-star restaurants. A place like that would probably cost her a pretty penny. She lived a comfortable life, but she was trying to stick to a budget.
